artistbettyanne: Female Saiyan ancestor (Saiyan)

WOO! I have a WIP at a "show-and-tell" stage! So here's a partially-colored version of "Concrete Paradise."

Well, last night I finally got the inks for my gender identity WIP finished. GODS was I dying trying to push through those last few figures - but I'm really happy with how they've all turned out. Click on the pics to go to the full-sized versions in my dA Scrapbook.

On the WIP again...I just can't wait to get on the WIP again...

Yes, I think this pic just might be driving me crazy. @__@

Another quick update, this time to offer up a popular request - Ranko-chan from my gender identity WIP as a completed standalone image.

The rest of the image isn't finished yet (or even completely inked) but the inking was driving me crazy, and I've had a few people request a finished Ranko via IM, so here it is. I'm pretty happy with how the color came out on this one, so I hope I can keep the same quality for the rest of the figures.

Until next post, enjoy!

After a week of dicking around and not getting much of anything done thanks to that crappy burnout I've been feeling, I'm finally been back on track for the last couple days. I can finally share some progress with everyone! This is kind of a short update, because I'm now in the process of inking, which is basically refining the lines in my image to prep it for color. Here's where I was as of yesterday. (I've made more progress today, but don't have a WIP saved for web viewing at this time.)

I'd also like to take a minute to side-track and promote a couple of awesome, totally worthwhile contests I discovered on deviantART yesterday.

The first is the 2010 CoolClimate Art Contest. A lot of great prizes and awesome judges are involved in this one, so even if you don't win, there are a lot of important people in art and climate change who will be looking at your art.

The second contest is the Oil Spill Awareness Contest - deviantART user Yuumei has put together this contest to keep attention on BP and the many, many abuses of people and the environment that have happened as a result of the Deep Horizons spill and are being swept out of peoples' attention through distraction and media blackout. The deadline was recently extended to August 15th for those like me who were linked to it late!

I will probably be entering both of these contests. Some of the work I am planning for my graduate show are related to the issues at hand, so they'll fit well with the contests. I'll just divert a bit of my current focus from the gender identity WIP to these for the time being. (And, of course, I'll share the progress and results all the same!)

Finally...I have all the figures sketched for this WIP and pasted into the mock-up. I'm ready to start inking, now, though I'll be making tweaks and modifications as I go along.

These last several figures have been one big effort in FAIL. I'm pretty sure I'm starting to burn out on sketching figures, because some of the mistakes I made in this last batch are stupid things I haven't done in a long time. I was going to post this journal last night, but then ended up nearly crying over how horrible some of these sketches were and went to bed instead. :( The small comfort was that most of these are really only visible from the waist/shoulders up in the layout, because they're background characters.

Let's take a look:

Fail, ahoy! )
Onward to inking!

Ugh. Yesterday was only a mildly productive day once again. The big breakthrough for me was finally drawing larger again - it took me two restarts on the sketch of the princesses to manage it, but at least I now seem to be beyond that particular mental block. Now I just have to turn myself back into a drawing machine so I can get the rest of my art done in the next month or so. ^^;

On to the sketches! )

Now I'm off to shower, have lunch, and resume drawing. I'm beating my own ass to get the rest of the 30 characters sketched today. :/

Well, the last few days have not been productive at all. Hubby was home from noon on the 12th through the morning of the 14th, so I got zero sketching done during that time. (Somehow, this always happens...go figure. >_>) I also had a bout with depression, which thanks to its overwhelmingly positive nature made me realize how little time I have left before my graduate show and triggered an anxiety attack. My brain completely wins at defeating itself. .__.

I got three sketches done before noon on the 12th, and six done yesterday. It's nowhere near where I wanted to be at this point (I wanted to have them all done and have started on inking by now) so you can probably guess what I'm going to be doing after I make this post. ^^; I've realized I can no longer do all-nighters to make up the difference in lost productivity; I tried that last night, only to end up with a headache Aleve wouldn't fix, followed by passing out and waking up when my dog started shuffling around the room wanting out at 6:00 AM. :/

Onward to sketch discussion!

Prepare to be underwhelmed... )

That's it for today! For those of you who haven't realized/aren't Dreamwidth members, I'm also now crossposting these entries to my DW journal. I really didn't use it before - I mostly had it so that I could reply to DW posts without being Anon, because OpenID hates me. However, I decided it was a good place for me to post my grad work posts for people who want to follow only that and not the various memes, wangst and other things I post in my LJ.

Here's a bigger update tonight! I got five characters sketched in today (Ranma-kun was sketched yesterday, but since I'd already posted twice that day I didn't want to spam my FList yet again). It's not quite as far as I wanted to get, but I had set this goal for myself as a minium this morning, and since I spent the bulk of the day at my parents, I don't think I did too bad.

On to the picspam and teal deer )

As promised, the first of (probably many) updates on my current WIP!

Cut for picspam. )

Well, fux0r. It's been a month since I've updated pretty much anything. :/ It's no wonder I never get anything done.

I am (slowly) starting to get back to putting pencil to paper this week, and I'm supposed to be journaling/note-taking as I go so that I (theoretically) have less work to do when it comes to writing my supporting paper for my grad show. I figured, what better place to do so than on my online journals, y/y? XD

The posts I'll be doing to this end will be tagged with "grad show journaling," so if you want to skip a bunch of musings, technical discussion, WIPs, etc by an artist, these posts will be easy enough to spot when scrolling. (Conversely, if you're one of the ones who reads my journal for those things, you'll be able to easily access them via that tag.)

Now that's out of the way, on to today's topic: Appropriation in Art
